Colours of a Life: Douglas MacDiarmid
13 July to 23 September, New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pukenga Whakaata The life and art of expatriate New Zealand artist Douglas MacDiarmid is saluted in a survey of his work encompassing portrait and figurative paintings and showcasing his bold use of colour and artistic diversity, from realist figuration through to geometric abstraction. During the 1940s, MacDiarmid was part of the Christchurch-based creative boundarypushers known as The Group where his mentors included Evelyn Page, Rita Angus, Leo Bensemann and Theo Schoon.
