Arwa Alneami: Never Never Land
To 4 November, City Gallery, Wellington To salute New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage, City Gallery delivers an exhibition of works by Arwa Alneami, a key contemporary artistic figure in Saudi Arabia, the most recent country in the world to give women the right to vote – exercised for the first time in the 2015 elections. Surreptitiously made videos and photos of women at an amusement park in the city of Abha, where strict rules prohibit screaming and wardrobe malfunctions, offer a wry commentary on the constrained position of women in the kingdom. (Saudi women have been able to drive since June 2018). citygallery.org.nz
