The concept of mauri ora – the life force or inner spirit we embody – is explored in a series of new works by highlyregarded Māori artist Israel Birch (Ngā Puhi, Ngāi Tawake, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Rakaipaaka). Employing lacquer on etched stainless steel, the artist demonstrates his ability to project a mesmerizing combination of light, texture and patterned layers from his large-scale compositions.
