CHALKING UP SUCCESS

Along with White Chalk, Hayley has launched two affiliated labels, Ruby & Rain and Beaut. While Beaut’s range of neutral-coloured essentials only launched in October, the plus-sized Ruby & Rain range “is going nuts – it keeps selling out”, says Hayley.

“It’s designed and fronted by my best friend, Meagan Te Wiata, who kept asking me to design White Chalk clothes for plus-sized women. I decided to do a range and it went crazy from the start. Meagan left her job and is working on Ruby & Rain full time.”

While Hayley says there’s no story behind the White Chalk name — “it just popped into my head” — Ruby & Rain is more personal.“Meagan chose Ruby because she’s from Ruby Bay, and I thought of rain because in the summer if there’s any talk of rain on the horizon, Matt’s mood instantly changes and if it actually rains it’s amazing.”
