Bold Moves

-

16 August to 15 September, Opera House, Wellington. Then Auckland, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Dunedin and Napier

A triple bill of visionary works made up of Russian-born choreographer George Balanchine’s highly influential neoclassical ballet Serenade (1934), regarded as the founding document of American ballet; United States choreographer William Forsythe’s Artifact II (1984), described as “blowing the cobwebs off European ballet with primary colour, Bach spliced with electronica and a larger-thanlife American athleticism”; and South Africaborn choreographer Andrea Schermoly’s contemporary work Stand to Reason. First seen in 2018, Schermoly’s ballet celebrates female suffrage and the boldness of the Kiwi women who won the right to vote in 1893. rnzb.org.nz
