ON AUCKLAND’S NORTH SHORE, SITS THE PENTHOUSE APARTMENT OF THE SENTINEL building, where Juliette Yarrell has just put the finishing touches on her most opulent project to date. Juliette approached Amie at Hushaberry to collaborate and design furnishings that are harmonious to both the exterior and interior of the apartment whilst emphasizing its character. Like any creative process, it was important for both Amie and Juliette to be able to turn their imagination into tangible products. Hushaberry’s ethos is to use ethically sourced, renewable wool material products that are environmentally friendly and exemplify a true taste of New Zealand in each space they are fitted to. There was no need to import international furnishings into this iconic Auckland apartment. The apartment has many moods. “One day you’ll wake up in a complete white out, as the clouds cover all four corners of the apartment. Other days, you’ll wake to a beautifully coloured sunrise or you’ll watch the sun go down on the eastern side of the building. It was important for us to let an often contrasting atmosphere, inspire the design of each product”, Juliette says. Stepping into the entrance of the penthouse apartment is a black marble feature wall with potential to look outdated. Juliette aimed to modernize the entrance and so Amie created a 9 metre New Zealand made black and white marbled wool rug to soften the tone of your first impression of the apartment. Inspired by the concept of ‘floating in the clouds’, Amie designed a white wool headboard, which creates a cozy feature to frame one of the bedrooms and a wool ottoman to match. Dotted throughout the apartment are light shades that Amie created, which fit each room perfectly including the iconic two toned and textured wool runner in the kitchen. In a corner of the Sentinel Apartment holds the main entertainment area, complete with a 10 person, L-shaped couch and surround sound home theatre system. Amie has fitted the entertainment hub with two of her signature wool bean bags that have natural, non dyed long hair. These minor details are key to making the apartment look and feel contemporary.
