New regulations will give the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and the SPCA more power to enforce animal welfare on blocks and farms.

The regulations cover the basic care of livestock, and many of the procedures, that most block owners carry out on a regular basis.

If your care is not up to standard, there is now a range of new fines for individuals, from $300-$5000.

The Animal Welfare (Care and Procedures) Regulations 2018, covers low-to-medium animal welfare offences. It’s things like not supplying shelter to a tethered goat; collars causing an animal pain; castration without pain relief.

Those committing serious offences of animal cruelty will still be prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act. Check out the full list of all the new regulations:imalregs
