Be­van Upchurch, gen­eral man­ager of re­frac­tory man­u­fac­tur­ing com­pany Certec, ad­vises hav­ing at least 2550mm between the bot­tom of the flue and the bot­tom of the in­ner arch to en­sure as much smoke as pos­si­ble flows out through the flue (and not the door). This al­lows the smoke to take the eas­i­est route to the flue as it moves across the top of the dome.
