Controlling Weeds the Natural Way

Charlie and Trish Goulter were so concerned about the impact of glyphosatebased herbicides, they created their own.

They have spent four years working with scientist John Lloyd to formulate an all-natural and effective bioherbicide, Weedx.

It has now gained EPA approval, the first product of its kind to be marketed in New Zealand.

Weedx’s combination of acetic and citric acid is fastacting, and allows the soil PH to rebalance within 24 hours. It kills annual and perennial weeds like dandelion, small gorse and broom bushes, scarlet pimpernel, mosses, clover and grass by contact.

It does not harm mature tree bark, is fully biodegradable in soil and aquatic areas, and is excellent for spraying on vegetable beds prior to planting.

Repeat spraying is necessary for larger and more resistant weeds. The Goulters believe this is a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with a natural product. Trish says their focus was on developing a weed spray safe to use for people, animals and the environment.

“We want to help people do right by their land, their animals and their kids.”

Goulter’s Vinegar Products is now working to make Weedx systemic, for the ultimate in natural, targeted weed control.

They’ve had a great response from domestic users, market gardeners, nurseries, and schools.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar for animal health

The Goulter’s also make a raw, organic apple cider vinegar with health applications for farm and domestic animals.

Farmers and pet lovers worldwide report positive health outcomes after adding ACV to their animals’ diets, including worm prevention and improved disease-resistance.

Farmers have found that giving their stock a small daily dose of ACV is likely to prevent the onset of worms because of the overall health improvement of their stock.

ACV contains trace elements which help to lower ph levels in the gut, which in turn assists with digestion. Healthy gut = healthy animals.

A US study showed that drenching sheep monthly with ACV improves their overall health and wool production. The study found that drenching ewes three weeks before the ram went out, and six weeks before lambing, reduced the mortality of lambs at birth.

Drench-resistance is also a growing concern for many horse owners. Parasite-resistance has been observed with ivermectin, moxidectin, benzimidazoles, tetrapyrimidines, and piperazine. The dung of horses treated with chemical wormers is not suitable for use as a fertiliser on organic farms as it contains residues that can kill earthworms.

A growing number of horse owners are now looking for more natural ways of keeping their horses worm-free. Using apple cider vinegar as a carrier adds minerals to the diet, aids digestion and brings the horse’s body to an alkaline state, which can help prevent arthritis and other health conditions.
