Tip of the month
Green feeds can be a rich source of pigments, which give egg yolks a rich, goldenyellow colour. Unfortunately, most green feeds are high in fibre and low in calcium and other minerals. If fed in large amounts, these feeds can reduce total nutrient intake and cause a reduction in egg production, egg quality and body weight. Like sweets for children, green feeds should only be offered to hens as a treat and should not make up more than 10% of their total feed. Most of their diet should be a good quality layer feed.
