Ringwomb
WHAT IS IT: incomplete dilation of the cervix more than 6 hours after the emergence of the foetal membrane.
CAUSE: The condition is very complex and not clearly understood. It may have a genetic component, as it's more common in certain breeds and family groups. However, it usually doesn't affect a ewe repeatedly across consecutive seasons. It's possible it's linked to multiple lamb pregnancies, and the ewe's age as it affects older ewes rather than virgin hoggets.
NOT CAUSED BY: nutritional deficiencies, metabolic disease, low or high body condition score.
