What is a critical source area (CSA)?

CSAs are landscape features such as gullies and depressions, where water ponds. They concentrate run-off, transporting nutrients, sediment, and bacteria (most often E. coli from manure) into drains, streams, and lakes.

Good management protects these areas, especially during times of greatest risk, such as during wet winters.
