SUE’S TIPS

Chicks need starter feed until the age of 6 weeks, then a grower ration until 16 weeks, which both contain the correct calcium level (1%) for their immature kidneys.

• If you can't get grower, continue feeding starter until 16 weeks.

• If you have a mixed flock, raise the feeders so chicks can't reach the layer ration.

• Once chicks are big enough to reach the adult ration, segregate them.
