A good bellyful

A pear-shaped abdomen is a sign of a well-developed rumen. An animal chewing its ‘cud' also tells you the rumen is working well. Cud is mouthfuls of food which are regurgitated from the rumen when an animal is lying down resting, part of the ruminant's digestion process.
