SLOAN COX DEBUTS WITH PODIUM IN EUROPE

NZ Performance Car - - Line -

Rally-turned-rallycross driver Sloan Cox has shown a promising start to his time at the RX Academy over in Finland after nabbing himself a third-place podium spot behind the wheel of a Renault Clio RS RX in the first race of the academy’s internal series.

The podium comes after a series of rallying and rallycross successes on home soil; however, Sloan tells us that the discipline is very different in Europe to what we have seen on New Zealand shores: “Europe has had rallycross for a long time, and [it] has been hugely popular for years. Some of these tracks have existed for some 50 years and been developed over that time … Europe is where it’s biggest, and it was hard to practise for anything like that back home.”

The prize for winning the academy series is a funded drive and a second year at the academy — you can read our full interview with Sloan on page 24.
