“We’re all getting older and moving further apart. We didn’t want to lose the bond we had when we grew up. Sharing this hobby, and cars, keeps the friendships together; we don’t want to forget where we came from,” says Kieran.
It might be some years on from those formative days blasting through the Reefton back roads, and a decade on from that first ‘proper’ drift day, but the method hasn’t changed; even in 2019, on the eve of the most recent Glory Daze event, the 732 collective congregated at Team HQ — Kieran’s house — the night before for a couple of cold fizzy drinks, a feed of fish and chips, and a hearty serving of drift videos to build the hype for two days of sliding. What has changed is the aesthetic. Kieran’s 180SX eventually grenaded an engine, making way for the track-only S13 Silvia, dripping with Origin Labo / Koguchi Power aero and draped over the unconventionally cool Rays Gram Lights 57 Pros. It’s a well-considered and wellpresented build, with fun firmly in Kieran’s brief when putting together the internally stock SR20DET with a few select bolt-ons ensuring a handy 260kW at the treads.
Mark progressed through a few Laurels before settling on
All three cars wear a Hero Prints–designed livery, the boys paying homage to their favourite era of Japanese drifting, back when style was never sacrificed for function Don’t let the form fool you; the underpinnings are equally impressive. Kieran’s S13 is a rolling catalogue of GKTech suspension components, including front and rear drop knuckles. While the boys only drift for fun, we’re told that they still don’t want to be slower than Team Gusto
