Jamie Joseph has taken over from Filo Tiatia as head coach at the Sunwolves to create a set up similar to the Pumas/Jaguares. Except the difference will be that one man, Joseph, is going to coach both. Such a system has as many downsides as it does merits but for the Sunwolves at least, it means they have a proven coach who has won a Super Rugby title.
Maybe not surprisingly Joseph has persuaded Michael Leitch, Hayden Parker and Robbie Robinson to join the cause.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TACTICALLY?
No prizes for guessing that the Sunwolves are going to morph into the Japanese national team. They will be supremely fit, play at an incredible pace and try to use their high skill level to run opponents off their feet.
GUT FEEL – RISERS OR FALLERS?
They might go okay this year – finding that with two seasons under their belt they are better prepared to front each week and understand that it is a long competition. So to answer the question – we think they are risers.
WHERE WILL THEY FINISH?
They will have more resilience, more ability to back-up each week but still, let’s be real, they aren’t going to end up in the playoffs or particularly near them.
