Ma’a Nonu’s return to the Blues was a surprise but the former All Black, who is determined to wear the black jersey at this year’s World Cup always seems to have the ability to do the unexpected. He is likely to be invaluable for MacDonald this season for his ability to get over the advantage line, and his vision in general. He will provide an excellent sounding board to his No 10, and given he’s training as well as he ever has, could well be one of the Blues’ best players this year. If so, he will be asking hard questions of All Blacks coach Steve Hansen – even at the age of 37.
