OLD DOG: DANE COLES

Has to be Dane Coles. Been sorely missed over the last two seasons, in part because of his explosive running game, ball skills, expert lineout throwing and scrummaging.

But what the Hurricanes have really lacked, as captain Coles recuperated from injuries, is a bit of mongrel.

Someone verbal, a player who’ll grab the opposition by the scru of the neck show his team aren’t powderpu s.

What’s more, they’ve been without that guy who turns to his team-mates and says ‘that’s not good enough’. That bloke who shames them into doing better.

Brad Shields tried, but there’s only one Dane Coles.
