PLUMTREE’S PROMOTION BUYS HIM A BIT OF TIME TO SETTLE
There is probably not too much pressure on Plumtree. It’s a tweaked coaching sta , with Plumtree moving up from assistant to head coach and Carlos Spencer taking an unspecified role with the backs.
On that basis, people will probably be inclined to give the group a season to get established.
But there will be the odd fan that does get on Plumtree’s back.
Whatever the actual division of labour, Chris Boyd will always be listed as the coach who won the Hurricanes’ only Super Rugby title.
When that coach wants to stay, as Boyd did, and you opt for someone else, then that someone else needs to deliver.
It’s not a win or else situation for Plumtree, but he definitely wouldn’t want to take the team backwards this year.
