SUPER COOPER BACK IN THE FRAME

-

Desperate times at the Wallabies could be about to see them resort to desperate measures and recall Quade Cooper.

The Kiwi-born first-five was in the rugby wilderness last year when Reds coach Brad Thorn dumped him from the squad and told him to go play club rugby.

That felt like it could be the end of Cooper’s career, but the Rebels made him a surprise offer and the shift to Melbourne has rejuvenated the fallen play-maker.

“He played a smart game in the first game out, he played nice and flat and he was very active in organising the play,” Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said after three rounds.

“But also looking to attack himself a little bit... always with the flair that he brings to the game. It is just a matter of him getting more games in the saddle, I think. More opportunities to play at the highest level against the best teams.

“And with that, I have no doubt he will come into strong contention for selection.”
