Three Best Games

-

1: Scotland v Japan

There was a tense and uncertain build-up given no one knew for sure the game would be played until six hours before kick-off.

The atmosphere was electric and so often when games are built like this they fall flat. But this one fizzed and went beyond all expectation.

Both teams played well. Japan were brilliant in the first half when they moved the ball with such speed and skill that the Scots were hanging on.

For the final 10 minutes it was Japan hanging on, showing they could defend with as much heart as they could attack with vision.

2: New Zealand v South Africa

Another game with big hype beforehand and another that lived up to its billing. This was intense and fast. It was brutal and beautiful and tense. The All Blacks showed their ability to attack from anywhere and the Boks had the resilience to fight back. It was end to end, highly skilled and always enterprising.

3: Wales v France

Finally, France showed there is reason to believe they can be unpredictable. They wound back the clock and ripped Wales apart in the first half and probably would have won had it not been for a crazy decision by Vahaamahina to elbow Wainright in the face in full view of everyone.

Still even with 32 minutes to hold on with 14 men and a slim lead, the French almost made it and were robbed in the end by a dud refereeing call.
