It wasn’t just Hurricanes fans who came to love Jerry Collins – everyone did. He was a law unto himself and a character with an infectious smile.

Most players who played against him rate Collins as the toughest they ever faced and it was the physicality he brought to the Hurricanes that earned him his cult status.

But while he was tough he was also fun and he engaged with fans, helped out around the community and was a man of the people.
