Former Springboks hooker

Chiliboy Ralapelle has effectively seen his professional career ended by an eight-year ban for doping.

The 33-year-old, who had previously served a two-year doping ban, was handed an eight-year suspension after he tested positive for the anabolic agent Zentarol in January 2019.

The Sharks hooker was randomly selected for an out of season test at King’s Park last year by the

South African Institute for Drug Free Sport.

Another Springbok, Aphiwe Dyantyi was ruled out of the World Cup last year after he failed a drugs test and now questions are being raised about how widespread the use of banned substances might be in the Republic.

There was media conjecture during the World Cup about the problem being significant in

South Africa.
