Rising Star
Chay Fihaki, who turned 20 on New Year’s Day, shot to prominence in provincial rugby last year when he kicked the long-range penalty for Canterbury against Auckland in Christchurch for a 34-33 victory which saved the red and blacks from relegation to the championship. Fihaki, a tall and powerful wing, arrived at Canterbury from Auckland, where he attended Sacred Heart College. Fihaki is also capable of playing in the midfield and his ability to land goals from halfway is clearly an ace up his sleeve. He’s also very good under the high ball.
