RECOVERY OPTIONS

The right Recovery gear can be the difference between a 4WD trip going to plan… or going pearshaped. We asked ARB to talk us through their current range.

-

When your vehicle’s caught in a torrential downpour on a steep mountain track, stuck in knee deep mud or bogged in an isolated desert in sweltering temperatures, the reliability, performance and durability of your recovery gear is paramount. ARB’s vehicle recovery accessories are engineered and manufactured to the highest standards, making them ideal for recreational use as well as competition.

Recovery Straps

When the only thing preventing your vehicle from imminent danger is a narrow strip of fabric, nothing but the best will do. ARB’s recovery straps are woven and fabricated to strict quality specifications and tested by a NATAapproved laboratory to ensure optimum performance. A full range of high quality straps are available, each specifically designed to suit its purpose and give you peace of mind during your next recovery.

Snatch Strap

Specifically designed to stretch under load for maximum performance, an ARB snatch strap is a very effective method of extracting a bogged or immobilised 4WD when a second vehicle is present. The unique design of the strap allows it to stretch and return to its original length, aiding recovery and greatly reducing the likelihood of vehicle damage.

Tree Trunk Protectors

When using a tree as an anchor point in a recovery situation, wrapping cable, rope or chain around it causes damage to both your equipment and the tree. This means next time you may not have a viable anchor point for recovery. Keep your anchor point unharmed and able to be used again by you or a fellow 4WDer with an ARB tree trunk protector.

Winch Extension Straps

An ARB winch extension strap is a lightweight nonstretch strap that is perfect for extending the length of your winch’s cable when the most suitable anchor point is out of reach.

Snatch Blocks

An ARB snatch block allows you to retrieve loads that are double a winch’s capacity by reducing the load on the winch by half, and facilitating winching from varying angles when straight ahead isn’t the best option. ARB has two models of snatch block available, the standard 7000kg, and the lightweight but heavy-duty 9000kg. These snatch blocks feature side plates that sit snug against the pulley, eliminating the possibility of the winch cable becoming trapped in between. And the groove on the pulley itself tapers down to the centre, allowing for a variety of cable sizes to be used and ensuring the cable is seated securely, minimising lateral movement.

Recovery Damper

While ARB’s winch cables and straps are exceptionally strong, it is essential that safety precautions such as fitting a recovery damper are taken to avoid injury in the event of a failure. In the unlikely event of a wire rope or strap failure, the recovery damper will absorb most of the energy in the cable or strap, thereby significantly reducing the recoil. ARB recovery dampers are manufactured from heavy duty vinyl with a silver reflective tape for visibility at night and Velcro to reduce slipping.

Recovery Points

Strong, reliable recovery points are essential for off road driving but the lack of

industry standards regarding rated tow points has caused confusion among four wheel drivers for many years. With this in mind, ARB has sought to set an industry benchmark for how recovery points are designed, tested and selected by 4WDers.

ARB’s recovery point range seeks to address issues surrounding generic tow points and their unsuitability for a range of recovery situations. These issues include questionable and untested mounting locations, confusion regarding the selection of rated shackles and straps, and the inability of generic tow points to safely handle stresses generated by an angled pull during vehicle recovery.

ARB aims to make it easy to find the correct recovery point for each individual customer with an engineered ‘ Recovery Train’ in which each vehicle specific recovery point is rated for use with a 4.75t rated bow shackle and 8000kg snatch strap.

Recovery kits

ARB produces two Recovery kits. The first is a premium one which comes in a large winch pack and includes a snatch strap, winch extension strap, tree trunk protector, snatch block, recovery damper, bow shackles and gloves.

The second is an ‘essentials’ kit which contains a tree trunk protector, snatch strap, bow shackles and snatch block.

X- Jack Exhaust Jack

The easy to store X- Jack is an invaluable recovery tool when you find yourself stuck in sand, mud or snow. It inflates via a hose that connects to your vehicle’s exhaust, or to a portable air compressor to offer up to 75cm of vehicle lif t and a lif ting capacity of 4000kg.

The X- Jack has been specifically designed to help keep the unit on the ground and avoid sinkage.

Magnum Hand Winch

When heavy duty recovery work is required, a mechanical hand winch is a cost- effective alternative to a vehicle-mounted winch.

Providing outstanding performance and reliability, the compact and lightweight Magnum hand winch is extremely durable, built using high quality steel and aluminium components.

Water Crossing Cover

Designed to divert water away from fragile radiator fan blades, the Water Crossing Cover creates a wave in front of the vehicle and assists with keeping the water level down within the engine bay.

Manufactured from tough polyester, the adjustment buckles features neoprene covers to protect vehicle paint work from damage, while the clear PVC headlight openings enable safe water crossings in low light.

Under vehicle mesh panels ensure built up water escapes quickly, and the supplied carrier pouch also doubles at a recovery strap pocket when the cover is in use.

Electric winches

The ARB Network also have available a wide range of Electric Winches to suit your vehicle and Application.
