DC to DC Charg­ers – Why you need one for your 4WD


DC-DC charg­ing is a rel­a­tively new term in the 4x4 and recre­ational ve­hi­cle mar­ket. It has be­come in­creas­ingly pop­u­lar over the last cou­ple of years as the ad­van­tages that this type of sys­tem bring have be­come in­creas­ingly pop­u­lar with those who are de­mand­ing more and more from their aux­il­iary bat­tery sys­tems.

DC-DC charg­ers work by con­vert­ing the volt­age and cur­rent level they are sup­plied from the ve­hi­cle al­ter­na­tor sys­tem into the re­quired out­put volt­age and cur­rent level for the bat­tery they are charg­ing.

In-ve­hi­cle charg­ing

BCDC In-ve­hi­cle bat­tery charg­ers have been de­signed to charge any com­monly used au­to­mo­tive aux­il­iary bat­tery to 100 per­cent by pro­vid­ing a unique multi-stage charg­ing pro­file whilst on the move. The 1225D and 1240D mod­els also fea­ture a MPPT So­lar reg­u­la­tor, al­low­ing the max­i­mum amount of power from so­lar pan­els to charge an aux­il­iary bat­tery. The range fea­tures a wide 9V – 32V in­put range al­low­ing an aux­il­iary bat­tery to be charged from either a 12V or 24V sys­tem at either a 25A or 40A out­put.

Coun­try and even with­stand the tor­ren­tial rain­falls of the West Coast. Fea­tur­ing fan-free cool­ing, there is no noise or wear­ing parts, elim­i­nat­ing any risk of dust get­ting into the unit and break­ing down when you need it most.

All mod­els in the BCDC in- ve­hi­cle bat­tery charger range op­er­ate up to a mar­ket lead­ing 80° C mean­ing they are go­ing to work in even the most ex­treme en­vi­ron­ments that our coun­try throws at it. A higher op­er­at­ing tem­per­a­ture also al­lows for flex­i­ble in­stal­la­tion op­tions, from the en­gine bay to in­side a van or camper trailer.

Redarc BCDC in-ve­hi­cle bat­tery charg­ers are well pro­tected, in­cor­po­rat­ing dual bat­tery iso­la­tion func­tion­al­ity as well as fault recog­ni­tion that in­cludes pro­tec­tion against volt­age spikes, over­heat­ing and re­verse po­lar­ity.
