Praise for traverse organisers

-

WHAT a terrific event the Town Belt Traverse (23.4.17) was once again. On behalf of our group, and I am sure many others who enjoyed it, we would like to thank the Dunedin Amenities Society, Taskforce Green and the rest of the volunteers who made the event possible.

The tracks were in amazing condition thanks to the efforts of these two fabulous organisations, given the recent weather, and the cheerful stewards along the way were just great. The barbecue and cuppa at the end were most appreciated too!

Climate change

PROFESSORS Mark and Flynn and many others in ODT letters, have recently been chipping away at the Government re its lack of action following the Paris 2015 Climate Agreement.

Sir Alan (ODT, 25.4.16), noted Gwynne Dyer ( ODT, 24.4.16) said the warming to March was much more than an El Nino effect, and had ‘‘frightening, unprecedented acceleration’’ in the past three months, and danger of runaway warming.

From March 2016 to March 2017 the world’s lower atmosphere has cooled markedly, northern hemisphere 0.64degC, southern hemisphere 0.45degC, and the world 0.54degC (www.droyspencer.com/2017/04/).

The UAH satellite record is the world’s most accurate, covering the whole globe. Observed warming in 201416 was simply an El Nino. This natural event seems over for now.

Wise Response, look at the data and conclude the 18year temperature ‘‘pause’’ has been reinstated. No cause for alarm or expenditure on

CO2 reduction, which will have no effect. Jock Allison
