She celebrated her 21st birthday on May 16 and was returning home on Monday after going away with her partner for the long weekend.

She was much loved by her sister Siobhan (22), brother Kameron (19), halfsister Becky (30) and her stepsisters Caitlin (21) and Kendra (19) Buist.

Ms Crozier was born in England and moved to Dunedin in 2004.

She attended Balaclava School and Otago Girls’ High School.

Her stepfather Craig Buist said his stepdaughter worked in hospitality but her ‘‘dreams and goals’’ were to work in early childhood education.

‘‘She got on extremely well with children and loved working with children.’’

The family was ‘‘very emotional and struggling’’, Mr Buist said.

The funeral would be held in Dunedin on Monday.

Balaclava School principal Gary Marsh said teachers remembered the former pupil at the school yesterday.

‘‘They spoke very fondly of her and out of respect for the family we are flying the flag at half mast,’’ he said.

Steve Crozier said his daughter was a ‘‘bright cookie that has gone too early’’.
