Building foundations for life

-

THE early settler John McGlashan wrote that he favoured a sound and liberal education, and today John McGlashan College continues to hold this ideal.

An integrated Year 713 school for boys, the college is committed to providing every boy with a broad, personalised education to help them grow into independent young men of integrity. The roll is limited to 500 day boys and boarders.

The college’s junior school is based upon small classes and innovative learning spaces. In the senior college, boys have four broad qualifications pathways: NCEA, the International Baccalaureate Diploma (the world’s most widely recognised university entrance qualification), Gateway, and the Centre of Excellence for Agricultural Science and Business.

Graduates from the college have won numerous awards, including international academic scholarships, and there have been many sporting champions in a variety of fields, including several Olympic representatives.

Over past decades, McGlashan pupils have become leaders in business and agriculture, and in academic and professional fields. The college prides itself on producing highachieving pupils, but our primary goal is to grow holistic educational opportunities which build character, resilience, and a healthy mind and body — academic success will follow, principal Neil Garry said. Boys choose McGlashan because they know they will get an excellent deal, with top teachers, top facilities and a wide range of opportunities, including academic, sporting, outdoor education and cultural. Come and see for yourselves.

‘‘McGlashan focuses on what works well for boys and endeavours to enhance personal wellbeing and satisfaction, with both staff and students actively contributing to a grounded, inclusive and highly productive schoolwide culture,’’ Mr Garry said.

Boys at the college enjoy outstanding lessons in a modern learning environment filled with opportunities to make the best of their strengths and abilities. Highquality teaching and learning is the hallmark of the college and it is based on positive relationships between staff and pupils.
