Wooing Tree application strikes opposition
A LAND rezoning application by a Cromwell vineyard has been opposed by 24 submissions and supported by 17.
In December, the Wooing Tree Vineyard owners announced plans to develop the 26ha site into a ‘‘boutique residential and commercial space’’ designed to complement their wine business. The vineyard lies across the highway from the town’s Big Fruit.
Earlier this year, the owners applied to the Central Otago District Council to change the site’s designation from rural residential to a mix of low to highdensity residential and light commercial.
Council planning officer Sarah Davidson said a final summary of submissions had not been completed and there would be another round of public submissions.
Vineyard partners Geoff and Jane Bews and Steve and Thea Farquharson have said the development could include community amenities, tourist attractions, retail and accommodation. Ten percent of the development would be allocated to commerce while the remaining 90% was for grape vines, residential lots and open spaces.
