Fashion awards evening

GLITZ and glamour will be the order of the day as the South’s finest fashion goes on display tonight at the Hokonui Gala Awards Evening.

Hokonui Fashion Design Awards secretary Sheree MacIntyre said the final touches had been put on the stage setting after the ‘‘less formal’’ Strictly Design Evening last night.

Tonight’s gala show would be a blacktie affair with entertainment, she said.

Judges spent yesterday perusing the 200 entries and deciding on tonight’s winners.

The number of entries was down on previous years but that was not necessarily a bad thing.

‘‘Sometimes if you’ve got too many, you don’t get a decent look at the garment.’’

There were entries from all over the country, many from fashion design students.

Viewing the garments on the catwalk ‘‘with the lighting and the sound and the buzz’’ was different from seeing them in daylight.

‘‘It’s just really exciting,’’ she said.
