Best boots recognised with awards

TIM McLennan and Eleanor Isaac claimed the top awards at last night’s Football South prizegivin­g.

The pair received male and female sportspers­on of the year awards respective­ly.

McLennan also won the male golden boot award, having scored 18 goals for Dunedin Technical this season.

The striker had a hot run of form to finish the season, finding the net 14 times in the space of four games, before adding a 15th on his last outing.

Isaac also scored 18 goals in the southern women’s league, finding the back of the net in seven of her 12 games.

She was edged for the female golden boot however, by Roslyn Wakari’s Renee Bacon, who scored 22 goals.

Caversham’s Ben Wade won the male young player of the year award, while Dunedin Technical’s Mikayla Gray won the women’s award.

Matt Blakely was the masters player of the year.

Graeme Smaill was awarded male coach of the year. Coral Seath won female coach of the year.

Referee of the year was Calvin Berg. Craig Smith was awarded the premier league’s referee of the year. Assistant referee of the year and most promising referee awards went to Andrea Verolino and Mark Dungey respective­ly.

Daniel Todd and Patrina Roche won male and female personalit­y of the year awards,. Megan O’Malley was administra­tor of the year.

New president of the year award went to Dan Ferguson.

The teams to win trophies were also acknowledg­ed.

Caversham had another successful season in the men’s competitio­ns, sweeping the top awards with the premier league, South Island championsh­ip and Blair Davidson challenge trophy.

In the women’s, Dunedin Technical was presented with the women’s premier league title.

It went unbeaten through the league, while also putting on an impressive showing to reach the semifinals of the women’s national knockout cup.
