Bigger and better second time around
WITH more than 100 exhibitors and a programme packed full of exciting and interesting displays, East Otago Field Days is set to, once again, draw the crowds.
This week’s event, which follows on from the booming success of the inaugural field days last year, will be held in the new venue of the Palmerston Saleyards, offering greater space and easier access.
Mowing of the grounds and gravelling of the access roads has already been undertaken with voluntary work by local contractors.
East Otago Field Days chief executive officer Paul Mutch said organisers were expecting ‘‘several thousand visitors’’ over the two days.
He paid tribute to the hardworking Wednesday October 18 and Thursday October 19 at the Palmerston Saleyards, Meadowbank, 3km from Palmerston on SH85. A large billboard marks the entrance.
Parking will be available on a property opposite the site, off Sutherland Rd.
Admission is $10 per adult each day.
committee, which had spent the past year putting together another fantastic event.
The programme includes cooking demonstrations and fashion parades, magician Jonathan Usher, and a fencing demonstration by South Island champion fencer Nick Perry.
Exhibitors include large machinery retailers, newvehicle sales, farm equipment, motorcycle dealers, irrigation equipment suppliers, veterinary, stud sheep and cattle, a health hub, realestate firms, clothing suppliers and several food outlets.
Golf will be an additional attraction this year, as Ardleigh Golf Club is on the western boundary of the field days site. Ardleigh is a superb ninehole course. Visitors to the field days can play golf on the Wednesday and with local players from noon on the Thursday. Green fees are $15 per day.
