Cultivated cannabis
Two men, neither of them previously convicted, were sentenced to community deten tion, community work and supervision, when dealt with on convictions for cultivating cannabis and possessing cannabis for supply.
Charged jointly, Zachary Allan Potter (20), and Jordan Everard Albert Sim (28), both of Dunedin, had admitted cultivating cannabis, between April 30 and June 30, and possessing cannabis for supply, on June 30.
Reviewing the facts, the judge said 115g ‘‘or something less’’ of cannabis was found in a police search at the defendants’ address, on June 30.
In the basement 19 cannabis plants were growing; the plants were 10cm60cm tall.
Evidence on a phone indicated prior growing.
While the defendants admitted selling some cannabis ‘‘and no doubt made some money’’, there was no huge commercial gain.
They said the growing and selling was for personal use and to assist with bill payments.
Potter and Sim were each sentenced to four months’ community detention (curfewed 7pm7am daily) and 200 hours’ community work.
In addition, Potter was sentenced to 12 months’ intensive supervision and Sim to six months’ supervision; and there were orders forfeiting $500 cash seized and the destruction of the items used in cannabis growing.
