National and Otago records to Wilson

LIZ Wilson starred with a trio of recordbreaking performances at the Caledonian Ground in Dunedin on Saturday.

The 55yearold Hill City-University athlete claimed both national and Otago records in the 5559 years 60m and 200m, as well as the Otago record in the 100m.

Wilson ran 8.83sec in the 60m to win her heat, while also taking a handy chunk off the previous New Zealand record of 9.11sec.

She also had an impressive performance in the 200m, running 28.09sec to beat the previous record of 28.50sec.

Just for good measure, she ran 13.96sec in the 100m to claim the grade’s Otago record.

Wilson, who entered the grade this year, holds the Otago records in all three events in both the 4549 and 5054 years categories.

She also holds both the 100m and 200m records in the 4044 category.

Alison Newall also got in on the act, clearing 1.95m to break the women’s 5559 national and Otago masters records.

She cleared the height on her third attempt, beating the previous national record by 5cm.

Meanwhile, Drew Cairney had his second narrow win in as many weeks in the 1500m.

After last week edging Nathan Hill by just over a second, he ran 4min 03.27sec on Saturday to edge Caden Shields by 0.09sec.

Cameron Miller had an impressive day, winning the long jump with a distance of 6.32m and the high jump with 1.85m.

Leonie Palmer won the women’s long jump with 5.14m, edging Brigid Corson by 2cm, while Jamie McAuslan won the women’s high jump with 1.55m.

Zharna Beattie threw 11.84m and 34.79m to win the women’s under18 shot put and open discus, and Hamish Mears threw an impressive 45.89m to win the men’s under18 discus.

Anton Schroder was the best of the javelin throwers, with a distance of 56.97m.

On the track Michael Manson claimed victory in the 100m in 11.14sec, although technical issues meant that race was handtimed.

Fiona Centers was the fastest woman in 12.61sec, while also running 25.81sec to be the fastest in the 200m.

Nathan MacDonell was the fastest man in the 200m, runing a time of 23.45sec.

In the 800m Liam Turner ran 1min 59.12sec to beat Nathan Hill, who ran 2min 02.09sec.

Tara McNally impressed in the hurdles, claiming the women’s under15 80m race in 12.34sec, before taking the 300m under18 race in 47.56sec.
