Mosgiel planning consents need another look

-

I AM disappointed at opposition to the proposed Mosgiel BP Service Station redevelopment and that consent has been declined by the city council.

Those who choose to live on a main road, State Highway 1, would surely expect noise and traffic 24 hours a day. Is the new BP really going to make any difference? The current BP isn’t large enough to handle demand, often being full to capacity with vehicles driving along the footpath to get access in or out.

Yet the council allows property developers to raise residential properties by half a metre, changing the contour of the land and causing increased flooding for the surrounding properties, apparently within regulations with correct stormwater drainage.

What happens when the stormwater system doesn’t cope during a period of heavy rain? The developed property is like an island amid all the flooded sections and the water has nowhere else to go.

I challenge DCC planning staff to inspect some of these developments and talk with surrounding property owners so that they can see past the regulations and look at reality. Rachael Brinsdon

Finish our cycleway

IF Mayor Dave Cull wants to be remembered and appreciated by ratepayers and tourists, then the cycleway from Vauxhall to Macandrew Bay must be finished.

The rates doubling after he promised they would not, and no further action on the peninsula cycleway, amount to a moral crime in my opinion.

He fusses over turf in the stadium that a select few use, while denying a huge number of tourists and locals daily exercise and enjoyment free of fear.

When exactly will the peninsula be allocated the money for this section of cycleway? Jean Grace
