Queenstown passenger numbers continue to grow

QUEENSTOWN Airport passenger numbers continue to grow, the latest monthly traffic report shows.

The total number of passengers passing through the terminal increased by 12% in November to 171,635, compared with the previous correspond­ing period.

Domestic traffic was up 11% on November last year and internatio­nal passengers were up 15% compared with the previous period.

The 12month passenger numbers reached 1.99 million, up 13% on the pcp, the airport company said in a statement.

‘‘We anticipate reaching the two million passenger mark for the rolling 12month period in December, marking a major milestone for the region.’’

The domestic growth was buoyed by a 15% to 16% rise in passengers in the first two weeks of November.

The Air New ZealandQue­enstown Marathon weekend of November 1719 also

contribute­d, when passenger traffic recorded was 18% above any weekend in November.

The peak summer period would be from Thursday December 21 to Sunday January 7. The busiest days of Sunday December 24, Thursday December 29 and Sunday 171,635

January 7 were expected to have passenger volumes in the range of between 7900 and 8300, the airport said.

Flight movements during the period had a morning peak between 11am and noon before the busy afternoon hours of 1pm to 4pm.
