Hunter’s snack hits back
Christchurch: A 51yearold hunter who had seizures after eating poisonous tutu berries was admitted to Christchurch Hospital’s intensive care unit this week.
The man was recovering yesterday but the Canterbury DHB issued a warning about the toxic fruit, saying trampers and day walkers should not eat unidentified purple or black native berries.
The man was hunting in the South Island and ate a significant amount of tutu berries, which he did not realise were highly toxic.
Tutu berries are purple or black berries, about the same size as blueberries.
