Eight North End burglaries prompt warning from police

Residents of Oamaru’s North End are being advised to be vigilant after at least eight daytime burglaries in the area in the past month.

The area around Redcastle and Fernbrook Rds and the streets that branch off them have been targeted.

‘‘People need to make sure their properties are secure and keep an eye on each others’ property. If they see people in their neighbourhood that don’t quite fit . . . or there’s anything suspicious, call police, ’’ Sergeant Tony Woodbridge said.

The fact several burglaries had been committed during the day suggested properties were being watched. Police had stepped up regular patrols in the area.
