Paisley looking for better luck with filly

- JONNY TURNER

TRAINER Alan Paisley and driver Ellie Barron are looking for a drastic change of fortunes at today’s Invercargill grasstrack meeting.

Barron was tipped from the cart behind Paisley’s maidener Glacier Coaster in her last start at Winton.

Thankfully, neither were harmed in the incident and both have the chance to continue their promising young careers today.

‘‘We were very lucky with her because Ellie got tipped out and she held on to the horse for a while but then it got away on her, but it only went about 100m and there was no harm at all,’’ Paisley said.

Glacier Coaster had shown her potential with good runs for third and fourth before her Winton mishap.

‘‘I think she could have just about won the race if she had not locked wheels. The only query with her is that it’s her first time on the grass and she can be a bit funny early until she really hits her straps.’’

Gotta Good Looker gives Paisley another strong chance today.

She ran third behind the very smart Chitura at Winton when driven by Kirk Larsen.

‘‘It was a good run from a bad draw at Winton,’’ Paisley said.

‘‘It is always hard when you are last at the 400m and you have to go out wide and Kirk said it was the best she has ever gone for him.’’

‘‘She is a bit of a funny thing and she can run around a bit, but we have put pulldown blinds on her and that has really made her concentrate at the end.’’

‘‘She handled the grass at Gore, too, which was good.’’

Veteran trotter Overcast went a booming race to win at last month’s Gore grasstrack meeting.

The win surprised punters, but not her trainer.

Her earlier form had been affected by her training regime being interrupted by trying to get the mare in foal, Paisley said.

Her laststart failure was the result of having to be driven against her usual sitsprint pattern.

Today, if Overcast could be saved for one run from her wide frontline draw, she could go well again, Paisley said.

‘‘She usually steps fast, so hopefully she could get across and get a good position. I don’t think that field is that much stronger than the one she won in.’’

Paisley hopes The Power Broker can return to form in today’s maiden trot.

‘‘I am pretty happy with him and I feel he is coming back to it.

‘‘His biggest problem is he can be a bit slow early and you have to be a wee bit careful with him.’’

Roxburgh trainers Geoff and Jude Knight line up three horses that are extremely well credentialled for today’s meeting.

Jacks N Jazz, Lis Amore and Fiery Ferret all go into their races on the back of second placings at Waikouaiti on Monday.
