Survey reveals community’s specific aspirations

PISA district community members in Central Otago are banding together and calling for improvements in their area.

The Pisa district is 10km north of Cromwell and includes Pisa Moorings, a subdivision on the shores of Lake Dunstan.

The Pisa District Community Group distributed a survey to ratepayers in the district, both permanent residents and holidaymakers, in September last year. The survey closed in October and results were collated by the community group.

Results were presented to the Cromwell Community Board at their meeting this week by community group treasurer Willy Samson.

The survey results showed residents wanted urgent improvements on rabbit control, construction of footpaths, a lower speed limit in the village and clarification of planning and building regulations.

Mr Samson said the group had a proposal from an Otago Regional Council contractor for $20,000 to control rabbits, starting by installing rabbit fences.

The community group wanted, as a priority, a footpath constructed along Ferry Lane, one of the main roads in the Pisa Moorings subdivision so it would be safer for walkers and children. They also wanted footpaths on the other main roads in the subdivision, Pisa Moorings Rd and Perriam Place.

They want to change the 50km speed limit in Pisa Moorings to 40km.

They wanted to influence the district planto get section sizes of at least 1000sq m. The community board accepted the report and chairman Neil Gillespie advised the group to make a submission to the council’s longterm plan.
