Joe Bennett gives hope for world without Trump

-

JOE Bennett (ODT, 12.4.18) is such a truthteller and wordsmith that he reminds me of an Old Testament prophet.

When one has been conned by a slick grifter, it is human nature to want it not to be true.

And to continue to think that whatever benefit or windfall was promised will either somehow appear or that the swindler has been prevented by circumstances beyond his control from fulfilling his promises.

To admit one was naive enough to have been played the sucker is something the ego won’t permit.

Mr Bennett, with help from Auden, gives us hope that the world will continue unabated, unconcerned.

This is the situation with Trump. I am writing because Bennett’s inevitable chastiser will appear and defend the indefensible.

Yes, Trump won the election by conning millions of people — and by no means a majority — who had no idea of who he was.

They took him at his word because, after all, he was his party’s nominee and he must be all right — right?

In fact, as a recent editorial in the Washington Post stated: ‘‘Trump may well be the single most corrupt major business figure in the United

States.’’ He has a list of scams too long to list in this short space.

Anyone with a little time can research his corruption. Unfortunately, American voters are loath to spend time on that endeavour when the Fox Network and Sinclair Media propaganda machines gives their versions of ‘‘alternate facts’’.

People of integrity have already deserted Trump — unfortunately not until soiling their reputations on his behalf.

Most recently even the rats are deserting both Trump and the Republican Party.

They must see the reckoning ahead and don’t wish to explain their empty scrotums to their constituency.
