Motatapu events to be spread over two days

- STAFF REPORTER

NEXT year’s Motatapu multisport event will be held over two days.

Event director Danielle Sherman said the twoday schedule would enable the even to grow and provide a better experience for participants.

‘‘We are always looking at ways to improve the customer experience on all of our events . . .

‘‘The excitement of a shared finish line has always been one of the special things about Motatapu.

‘‘With the changes we have put in place we won’t lose that, with multiple events on each day, but we create a more userfriendly environment by separating the cycling events and the events done on foot.’’

The first three events — the Ultra Run, triathlon and mountain bike — will be held on Saturday, March 9 and the off road marathon, Miners and Sawpit trail runs will be held on Sunday, March 10.

Ms Sherman said splitting the events had benefits to the region, because those taking part in one of the events would be able to spend more time in the district and it would allow the event to grow ‘‘safely’’.

‘‘Our primary focus is always that customer experience and putting on a great event for everyone.

‘‘These changes mean we can celebrate 15 years of the Motatapu across two days and hopefully welcome even more people to experience this amazing part of the world.’’

Entries for next year’s event open online at 11am on Monday.
