Unassailable lead for Otago Boys’

- ADRIAN SECONI

OTAGO Boys’ High School came and conquered.

It leads 117 in the traditional interschool against King’s High School.

The crosscountry is being held today during the Caversham Relay, but Otago Boys’ has a fourpoint buffer and cannot lose the interschool.

The visitors also won the marquee event — the First XV match — 209. The fixture doubled as an Otago schools premier game.

Coach Ryan Martin felt his side lacked a little zip following a tough game on the weekend against its Second XV. But he also felt King’s played with a lot of passion.

‘‘We looked a bit tired today, to be honest,’’ he said.

‘‘We played on Saturday and whether that had an effect, I’m not sure.’’

The Second XV game was a onesided encounter with Otago Boys’ winning 770. Its under15 side won 4722 but King’s had a healthy win in the under14 match, winning 6610.

King’s dominated the football, winning the First XI game 20 and the junior First XI one 40.

The basketball was split: Otago Boys’ won the senior match 11085 and King’s won the junior match 6761.

Badminton was oneway traffic with Otago Boys’ winning 102. The school also won the senior and junior chess, senior debating, junior hockey, golf and trap shooting.

King’s won the junior debating, the smallbore shooting, and the senior hockey 40.
