Access ramps to be closed

- STAFF REPORTER

GREEN Island and Abbotsford access ramps on to and off Dunedin’s Southern Motorway will be closed overnight for six days from tomorrow.

The access ways will be closed from 6pm to 6am until next Friday night.

The Abbotsford onramp north will remain open.

NZ Transport Agency system manager Graeme Hall said three roundabouts would be milled and resealed, which required closures and alternative access routes.

Main South Rd from Brighton Rd to Abbotsford Rd would also be closed, affecting the Green Island, Sunnyvale and Abbotsford communities and their usual access on to and off the Southern Motorway.

Mr Hall said those residents would need to use either the Fairfield or Burnside on and offramps, and, with the closures being after dark, people would have to plan their journey.

The sealing project for the three roundabouts was jointly funded by the NZTA and the Dunedin City Council.

Drivers were warned to expect temporary traffic management on Main South Rd and a slower than usual drive on the milled, temporarily gravel surfaces once the road reopened during the day.

During the day, work would continue on footpaths and drainage work.

Residents were asked not to park near the Abbotsford offramp and Main South Rd.
