Royal newlyweds catch their breaths

-

LONDON: The newly married Duke and Duchess of Sussex have snuck in some recovery time after their fairytale wedding before they attend their first official engagement as husband and wife.

Unlike other newlyweds, the couple are not jetting off on honeymoon straight away, but will instead attend a Buckingham Palace garden party as part of the Prince of Wales’ 70th birthday celebrations tonight (NZ time).

The marriage marks the beginning of a new life for the duchess, who is reported to have broken with tradition to give a speech of her own at the wedding reception.

She will continue her work with various charities, including UN Women and World Vision, as well as with the Royal Foundation alongside Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

A visit to Australia for the Invictus Games is in the diary for October, and other trips abroad this year are said to be in the pipeline.

But despite their hectic schedules, the couple seized the opportunity to spend some time away from the public eye yesterday.

After two receptions hosted by the Queen and Prince of Wales on Saturday, when some guests were said to have continued partying well after Frogmore House closed its doors, the newlyweds left Windsor Castle yesterday morning for some wellearned privacy.

Only the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen returning home to Kensington Palace yesterday morning.
