Keep out of mobility parks unless you have a card

-

ON May 27, my wheelchairbound friend and I went to the movies.

We left home 30 minutes before the movie began, hoping to use a mobility park near the theatre. The three parks were filled, one by a black ute.

We went round the block and, as the black ute was still in the park, I parked my car on yellow lines and asked the ute driver if he had a mobility card, to which he replied, ‘‘no’’ and explained he was waiting for someone at the emergency doctors. He moved his ute for us.

We arrived at the theatre but we could not go in as the movie had already begun and the opening of the side door to allow the wheelchair to enter would have disturbed those in the theatre; a decision I respect as a regular moviegoer.

However, if the ute had not been parked illegally on our first approach, we would have been in plenty of time for the movies.

My plea is, unless you have a mobility issue please stay out of the mobility parks and leave them for the intended occupiers. C. Clarke

Waverley parking issue

I FULLY agree with Ian Smith regarding the parking in Lower Belford St in Waverley.

I live in this section of the street and use this section of road daily and am very aware of the congestion. Because of the curve of the road at Ballantyne St, you cannot see if traffic is coming until you are into the oneway area, either coming up or going down.

The speed that some vehicles travel at makes this very dangerous. Maybe some yellow ‘‘no stopping’’ markings are needed?

Parking in the culdesac at the end of the street also needs looking at again. Parking Enforcement did so about a year ago but it has now reverted to parking at right angles to the kerb instead of parallel to it.

As more houses get built at the end of Belford St, congestion will worsen. Colin Sprott
