Disability advocate dies

Invercargi­ll: Southland politician and disability advocate J B Munro died yesterday. He was 82.

John Baldwin Munro — known as ‘‘JB’’ — was a oneterm Labour MP for Invercargi­ll, from 197275.

However, it was for his work with disability organisati­ons that Mr Munro was best known.

Appointed national secretary of IHC in 1977, he retired from the organisati­on in 1998 as chief executive officer. He was eventually made a life member.

Mr Munro, a former Mosgiel resident, moved to Christchur­ch, where his funeral will be held on Friday.
