Win puts Phys Ed Blue in premier A grade

- KAYLA HODGE

PHYS Ed Blue is the latest addition to premier A grade after a convincing win over University Albion B in a promotionrelegation game last night.

Phys Ed won 5929 and never looked like losing.

Former Silver Fern Jo Morrison was influential for Phys Ed at goal shoot, positioning herself strongly on the ball side and was constantly moving to provide direct options for her feeders.

She teamed up with goal attack Marcia Jerman to form a lovely combination, complete with several offloads and nolook passes to one another.

Albion B had a better second quarter, providing good options on attack, but it still struggled to shut down the shooting circle of Phys Ed.

Phys Ed went into halftime up 3218.

The ability to quickly transition from defence to attack was the significant difference between the two teams.

Phys Ed changed its line up at every quarter showing the depth and versatility of the side.

As a result of the loss, Albion B will drop down into premier B grade.

Earlier in the night, St Hilda’s Collegiate School A smashed the Southern Tuis 5244.

It was a classic game of two halves with Southern starting strongly.

It used a lowcourt zone that proved hard for the St Hilda’s attack to drive through and found Southern up 1310 at the first quarter break.

Southern goal keep Alice Doig took two big crosscourt intercepts taking her team to the halftime break up 2423.

St Hilda’s brought Elora Peters on at goal attack in the second half.

She opened up the attack line almost immediately by pulling her defence out of the circle and creating space for goal shoot Megan Borst.

Goal defence Annie Timu was best on court for St Hilda’s and pulled in crucial intercepts for her team at the right time.

Timu was instrumental in bringing the ball through on attack and slowing the pace down. The momentum was all with St Hilda’s during the third quarter and it went into the break up 3933.

St Hilda’s kept its composure, playing the ball around in the final quarter to take the win.

Both teams will remain in the grade they are in.
